The Podmanitzky family
was an influential noble family in the Kingdom of Hungary. They originate from the little village Podmanín near Považská Bystrica, Slovakia.
They passed regional bylaw called Articuli Podmanickyani which is sound testimony to the life of small size slovak medieval town (Považská Bystrica) in the 16th century.[1]
“They were the men, who for more than a hundred years influenced highest politics in the Kingdom of Hungary. They were present when most striking issues were dealt with, they helped several kings to gain the throne. Powerful, proud, but diplomatic. Great tactics, who had always known when to fight and when to retreat.”[2]

Stud. Jus zuerst in Käsmark (Kežmarok),
1845/46 in Berlin.
1843/44 nahm er als Sekretär des Gf. Ráday am Preßburger Reichstag teil.
Auf dem Reichstag von 1847 Vizenotar des Kom. Pest und Mitgl. der Magnatentafel, 1848 Mitgl. und Notar des Oberhauses im Pester Parlament.
Während der Revolution von 1848/49 kämpfte er bei der Honved (Husarenkapitän), diente nach der Niederlage strafweise ein Jahr als Gemeiner in der k. Armee und zog sich dann auf seine Güter in Aszód zurück.
P. beschäftigte sich nun mit Literatur, red. 1868 die Z. „Hazánk“ und wirkte 1875–85 als Intendant des Opernhauses und des Nationaltheaters in Budapest.
Er fungierte 1861–1905 als Präs. des Hauptstädt. Rats für öff. Arbeiten,
ab 1865 als Gen.Insp. der Evang. Kirche AB. P.s zahlreiche belletrist. Werke wurden zu seiner Zeit viel gelesen, seine Reisebeschreibungen und Tagebücher sind von hist. Wert.
